The Status

Statuses have become omnipresent. Yes, statuses are now a common feature across IM’s and social networks.
Now it’s not just the “away” message. People use status as a mouthpiece, as a format for announcement to show their happiness/sadness and much more.Very often, very creative and at times very informative, much like the swiss knife, they are a host of things at once. So what is so great about statuses?

Statuses are great because by giving context to start talking they “give people reasons to talk“.

Any match score as a status would lead any sports enthusiast to come and talk about the match. A “feeling low” status can bring someones friends to cheer her up.

Has it happened to you that someone who was on your IM contact list but was still out of touch pinged you because of your status ? If not try writing, “Yeah !! I am in love” or “Is fed up of life” as a status and see.

Statuses give insights into people. Is someone interested in music? Is someone a geek? Someone sharing useful links would come across as knowledgeable and street smart in the internet town.

In kwippy status takes the centerstage. They are the social objects over which people talk. We already support storing status messages from Gtalk and Yahoo. More IMs and social networks are in the pipeline. So people continue doing what you have been, all along, i.e changing your statuses :)

  1. It’s funny, I use Digsby & it can link Foxy Tunes with your status message. So, my status message is CONSTANTLY changing with each new song I listen to & then I see it on Kwippy. Very neat feature.
